Amazon is an American multinational
technology company focused on commerce, cloud computing, digital broadcasting,
and virtualization. It is one of the Five Major Companies in the U.S.
information technology industry, as well as Alphabet (Google), Apple, Meta
(Facebook), and Microsoft. The company has been named "one of the most
influential economic and cultural forces in the world", and the world's
most important commodity.
History
In May 1997, the Amazon was released to the public. It started selling music and videos in 1998, at which point it began operating internationally by finding online booksellers in the United Kingdom and Germany. The following year, Amazon began selling video games, consumer electronics, home improvement items, software, games, and toys.
In 2000, the Amazon logo was launched. In
2002, Amazon launched Amazon Web Services (AWS), which provides data on website
thunderstorms, internet traffic patterns and other statistics for retailers and
developers.
